ELC is a unique international school. The philosophy is based on the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching and learning. The school is beautiful and makes for a warm and welcoming learning environment. The owner is involved in the day-to-day activities and running of the school, which can make it tricky at times and decision making is not usually very transparent. It is a full inclusion school, so there are children with greater needs inside of each class, though care is taken to ensure balanced classrooms with teachers, aides and 1:1 teachers for the students with greater needs. Many classes are co-taught, which can be difficult for teachers who prefer to be autonomous. Parents are heavily involved and are usually an asset to the learning environment. It is a small school as it only goes up to Year 6, so the environment is very much a community and teachers generally feel supported by administrators and colleagues. There is not a great emphasis placed on Professional Development, though that has changed in recent years and there is always money available for teachers who seek opportunities out. I would definitely return to work at ELC in the future if life brought me back to Bangkok. Bangkok is a lively and welcoming city. It's a relatively easy place to live with every amenity available. Cost of living is low, so quality of life is high with numerous travel opportunities within SE Asia. No need for a car as public transportation is abundant in Bangkok and it's relatively easy to travel outside of the city via bus, taxi or car rental. Thai people are generally very warm and happy to interact with foreigners. With being such a large city, there are many opportunities to get involved and find like-minded people, groups or organizations.
