For those with children, The Good: The students and colleagues of International School Manila are superb. The people of the Philippines are incredibly welcoming and warm as well. School provides an excellent education experience for your children. Diverse and truly international. The Bad: Manila is a hard place to live with kids as it contains zero open public space. Play dates, and pay-to-play indoor facilities only go so far in creating a positive environment for your kids to develop. While the school is great in offering after-school activities, there is not much within the city to keep kids active. You will live and work within the ISM bubble. The only escape is to take flights to islands around the Philippines. There are many great places, but getting to those places can be a bit of a hassle at times. The Ugly (although not really that ugly, yet): Bureaucracy is getting worse and so is the traffic. Pay has not kept up with the cost of living. TIE Care insurance package has no vision or dental. It is also a rather problematic insurance group that has a rather cumbersome way of reimbursing medical costs. HR department has been less helpful/effective in recent years in addressing concerns of the faculty (housing, insurance), which has been a rather worrisome trend. But once again, it is not that "ugly".
