The school is a top-tier school with a beautiful campus, top-class teachers, and hard-working students. The majority of the teachers are world-class teachers, highly qualified, competent, and passionate. The school runs IB and AP courses in the HS, which is a very ambitious program. However, despite the school’s history and its legacy as one of the top international schools in Thailand, the school has seen a sharp increase of Thai nationals over the last years which ironically is perceived by many attending Thai families as a demotion of the school to becoming a second tier-school in Thailand. Many parents also struggle to understand the international school setting as they believe that their student performance depends solely on the teacher and they intervene to protect their children at the first sign failure. In short, RIS is a great school that has struggled to find its identity. This identity crisis is mainly due to the governance structure of the school which tightly connected to the redemptorist. In recent years the school has had great leadership but keeps struggling due to its governance structure. Ruamrudee has undergone a lot of changes in the last few years, the majority of them are for the better. The school has been working hard to attract new teachers by offering more family-oriented teaching package (flights for all dependents, healthcare for all, a generous professional development fund, increased housing stipend, multiple-entry visas for all staff paid for by the school, etc). The salary packages are maybe just a bit lower than the three top schools in Thailand.
Overall it is a good school. The number one problem is poor management. Great kids, supportive parents, fair owners, teaching colleagues pretty decent in the main, but terrible management. There have been repeated incidents of highly unethical behavior at all levels of school administration. For some reason the school seems unable to hire ethical managers and leaders. That's it in a nutshell!
