From the eyes of a high school teacher I share the following: SCIS is a for profit organization regardless of what you are told. Any possible chance to save money will be taken, the school does not have a pay scale therefore depending on negotiation skills some teachers get paid more than others regardless of qualifications...etc. The school tends to hire young inexperienced teachers giving them a chance to gain overseas international experience that would look great on their CVs.... (Saving money). Administration: The board and the superintendent have the word all the rest have very little to say. Health Insurance: The health insurance provided is very poor, it allows you to visit average clinics that lack specialists. (They might refer you to a non English speaking specialist). Teaching Resources: As a teacher be prepared to bring your own teaching material since teaching resources provided by the school are very limited or outdated. Students are given MacBooks but they are useless during lesson time as the technology doesn't exist to facilitate teacher and student interaction. Teachers are in encouraged to use e-books yet non really exist to support your teaching. Collaboration: Teachers rarely have common planning and hardly ever any collaboration time. Settling In: Teachers are picked up at the airport and checked into their school provided housing. The housing provided by the school is decent, you will be asked to move out after your first year and find your own place. The housing allowance is not enough to find the equivalence of what they provide. Occasionally the school would invite you to attend workshops hosted by the school ... Then register you and take it out of your PD money.
